About Me
I am an applied psychologist and artist who -
(1) relies on artistic expressions and scientific discoveries equally to make meaning of this world
(2) explores various media to capture and articulate insights from data and life experiences to help enhance human lives
From where I came:
I was born in Chittagong, raised in Dhaka (Bangladesh), and now live in Knoxville (TN). I spent most of my formative years in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, which shaped my world views on people, life, aspirations, culture, and situations (PLACES). No matter where I am and what I do, I am always looking for an answer to the ONE (triple-barreled) question: “How can I make someone’s life a little easier, a little better, a little happier?”. In my academic work, I explore ways to solve serious problems impeding human development to help optimize human potential and life experiences (outcomes).
In August 2011, I set foot in New York City, a place that shockingly felt like home. Jetlagged and dazzled by the bright lights and billboards in Times Square, I was daydreaming about getting some sleep. My life in a new country was/is nothing as I had predicted. After 13 years of living in the United States of America, I realize I am happy when I can help someone, share time with my loved ones, and sleep well. After all, I feel that life is full of many small moments that make up some big memories. I like to make sure these small moments count.
Where I am going:
I have some idea about where I am heading. I believe this life is about developing our minds from the people and experiences we are lucky to encounter. In the academic world, I identify as a mentor and applied (developmental) psychologist. In the world of art, I look for ways to articulate what I learn in my own development journey. On an average day, I wake up thinking how I can help someone looking for a solution to their problems or even just come up with an encouraging word or two to help someone feel better.
I believe this life is short but it has the potential to be a great story.
